SSC CGL 2025 Exam Postponed: New Dates, OTR Edit Window, and Latest Updates

For months, there have been rumours and uncertainty about whether the SSC CGL Tier-1 exam would be conducted on time. Now, the official news is out the exam has been postponed.

Official New Schedule

The SSC CGL Tier-1 2025 examination, originally scheduled to be held from 13 August 2025, will now start from the first week of September 2025.
A revised schedule for CGL and all other subsequent SSC exams will soon be posted on the official Commission website.

Earlier Protests and the Vendor Controversy

Earlier this year, Delhi witnessed a huge protest by educators and students over issues in SSC exams.
The unrest was caused by:

  • Exam centres located extremely far from candidates’ homes
  • Poor management at certain venues
  • Inadequate computer systems and technical glitches
  • Problems with official notifications
  • A demand for refund of the challenge key fee

The controversy deepened when SSC changed its vendor from TCS to Eduquity Career Technologies a company blacklisted in the past over alleged mismanagement in other recruitment exams. This vendor change raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability.

Fresh Doubts After the SSC Stenographer Exam

After some reassurance from talks between teachers’ associations and SSC officials, many aspirants felt relieved until the SSC Stenographer 2025 exam took place recently.

Reports highlighted massive problems:

  • Centres in remote, poorly connected areas
  • Roads flooded with water, forcing candidates to use tractors to reach exam halls
  • Long travel distances of hundreds of kilometres for many aspirants
  • Poor infrastructure and chaotic arrangements

Following these incidents, SSC announced re-exams for affected Stenographer candidates due to “operational issues.”

Why This Matters for CGL

The Stenographer exam had less than one-tenth the number of candidates expected for CGL yet SSC still struggled. This raised a major concern:

If SSC couldn’t handle the Steno exam smoothly, how will it manage the CGL exam with over 27 lakh candidates?

The official postponement appears to be an attempt to buy time and prevent large-scale mismanagement.

OTR Edit Facility Reopened

Alongside the postponement, SSC has announced that the One Time Registration (OTR) edit facility which was disabled during the application period for various 2025 exams will be reopened from 14 August 2025 to 31 August 2025.

Key points:

  • Candidates can make changes to any field in their OTR during this period.
  • Applications for subsequent SSC exams will start from September 2025.
  • No OTR edits will be allowed after 31 August 2025.

What Aspirants Should Do Now

  • Continue preparation without slowing down.
  • Use the postponement to strengthen weak areas and revise thoroughly.
  • If needed, edit your OTR details within the given window to avoid future issues.
  • Stay updated via the official SSC website for the revised exam schedule.

Expert Opinion

Many teachers and exam experts had predicted the difficulty of conducting CGL in August after the Steno exam chaos.
While a postponement of a few weeks is now confirmed, experts still warn that the real test for SSC will be managing the massive candidate turnout in September without glitches.

With the official postponement, the countdown to SSC CGL 2025 has restarted — giving aspirants both more time and more uncertainty. The key now is to prepare smart, adapt to changes, and be ready for the new September schedule.
